The Nonsensical Qualities of Girls' Tennis
>> Wednesday, December 3, 2008
by Chris Rytting"Nonsense," Senior Rachel Clarke said of the girls' tennis team in a recent interview, "the whole team is just chaos. Tennis is really boring. Personally, I think we could have a few more brawls."
Although the interview had little rhyme or reason, one gets the feeling that Clarke feels good about the season. When asked how she would rate the team's success, she answers that she "would rate it as a 10.5 out of 10." After all, "we took second in region. Our whole team went to state. Shayla [Gibb], junior, went to the semi-finals, and the only time we lost was against Lone Peak."
Another component of success for the team was the return of senior Lindsey Peperone, who had a torn ACL before this season and made a successful comeback from a knee surgery in time for the season.
The team, whose season is now over, had supposedly been plagued throughout the season by the expressions "do as I say, not as I do," courtesy of coach Suzy, and the word "fetch!" According to Clarke, the heaviest user of "offensive" language is senior Heather Jackman. "She's definitely the angriest," adds Rachel.
At least all of these components add up to an entertaining team, if nothing else. "It's fun to watch," concurs sophomore Patrick Clarke.
